Runaway stories are usually pretty cliche, but this one explores more than the generic longing for the safety and security of home. Though the main character does discover how dependent he is on the structure and safety his family provides, he also discovers the monster within himself. I am impressed with how the author turns the story away from the typical kid run away from home to explain the self-loathing and anger a teenager experiences sometimes at a critical moment in life. Really good writing.
