I figured when I got this book that I would like it, because I like pretty much everything Steve Martin does. He finds a way to make even very weird or blase topics rather interesting and artistic. Normally I hate authors who do this because I hate artsy fartsy shit, but Steve Martin is exempt from all that.
This book is about a girl who works at a glove counter at Nieman Marcus in I think LA, and basically hates her life and is totally miserable. She is from Vermont. She's had shitty luck in relationships and she makes almost nothing. Then she winds up dating this rich customer who is like twice her age and becomes a better person. She's also an artist.
SPOILER:
Eventually she and the rich guy part ways and she winds up with someone we've known all through the book but didn't consider fit for her. She is happy, The End.
I liked this book, but maybe not as much as "Picasso at the Lapin Agile".
