I rescued this paperback from a bin at the self-serve recycling centre on Carolyn Street. It contains five stories about an inventor who only builds things when he's drunk...and then can't quite remember what they were supposed to do when he's sober! Stories written between 1943 and 1952.

It also has this clear plastic sleeve over the cover, with a tiny plastic 1984 calendar and a receipt for paying a fine, also dated 1984, tucked into it. I'll keep it all together.

This was funny! Gallagher drinks constantly, but only occasionally does he go over the line and become Gallagher Plus, the Mad Inventor! And his robot spends his time staring in the mirror, thinking himself the epitomy of perfection. Some aspects of the stories are a bit dated (surprise), but the humour is still fresh.

A fun collection of older stories, as Aud said, somewhat dated but not as much as you'd expect, considering it's age.
