Not quite what I'm used to with Koontz... not as "thrilling" as usual, but still a good story. Just a bit out of his usual stuff, which isn't necessarily a bad thing, as this is a very good story.

Heaven help me I can't remember the title of the book :(
Isn't that horrible? But I gave it away tonight at Second Cup.

Got it last night from a fellow BookCrosser at our meet-up.
I have read a lot of Koontz when I was much younger and re-discovered him a few months back when I read his new book "One door away from heaven". I'm looking forward to reading this one!

This was a quick weekend read. The style was a bit unexpected for Dean Koontz, but after reading the note to readers at the back of the novel, I understand where this is coming from.

***Spoiler alert*****

The idea of the book is brilliant. Sixty ticking bombs on a icefloe in the Arctic in the middle of a winter storm with a bunch of scientists racing the clock to get off alive. Throw in a daring rescue attempt by a Russian submarine and you have a recipe for a good suspense novel. I do have a problem with the added storyline of a psychpath killer ... that was a bit over the top and detracted from the believability of the story. I would have given the book a much higher rating if that was not included. I get the feeling that the book was written and then the psycopath part was stuck on as an afterthought (what would a Koontz book be without an evil psycopath?). The story just did not gel too well around that theme.

Apart from that one point I do agree with GabeAubrey that it is a good story, maybe not as well written as his other work, but it was an experiment after all. Will release it soon.

Released on Monday, February 03, 2003 at UNB campus, Forestry & Geology building in Fredericton, New Brunswick Canada.

Actually it is not the F&G building, but in the New Forestry building behind it. The book was released in the Faculty Lounge on the second floor.

I've got to stop looking for books, I'm getting a backlog!
Never read any Koontz books, don't normally read scary things, but this sounds as though it may be more tense than scary. I didn't read the plot spoiler, either.
It may be some time before I re-release this.

Released on Thursday, July 22, 2004 at UNB, Forestry and Geology, ladies wc, 1st floor in Fredericton, New Brunswick Canada.
