A second copy for an international Bookring.

The government knows that Daphne Urban is a vampire, and they have an ultimatum: spy for them, or be killed. The choice is easy. She can speak 13 languages, has a genius IQ, and has escaped detection for nearly five hundred years-making her perfect for Team Darkwing. Her first mission is to get close to Bonaventure, a shady arms dealer with an unexpected gift for seduction. But when Darius, a darkly sexy vampire slayer, begins chasing her, Darius is torn between desire and duty. For his lithe, young prey is also his ultimate temptation.

Journal Entry 4 by moonglow18 from Rainsville, Alabama USA on Tuesday, April 11, 2006
Recieved this save and sound from Australia. I have one or two bookrings before this one (they always arrive in pairs) but i will get right to it.

Journal Entry 5 by yvensong from Reno, Nevada USA on Monday, May 1, 2006
This arrived today! I'll start reading this in a day or two. Thanks for sharing this!

Journal Entry 6 by yvensong from Reno, Nevada USA on Thursday, May 11, 2006
I generally stay away from anything in the romance genre, even if it's called paranormal romance. I'm glad I took a chance with this one, and look forward to reading of more adventures of Team Darkwing. Russe has given some depth to her main characters, giving them strengths and weaknesses to struggle with and the story is current and fun to follow.

Thanks for sharing this!

This is now on its way to Needsun!

Journal Entry 7 by NeedSun from Perth Road, Ontario Canada on Thursday, May 18, 2006
This book came in the mail today.. wow.. nice fast delivery for a change!

I do have a few bookrings to read before I can get to this one. Things are a little slower around my house so it shouldn't be too long before it gets back on the road.

Journal Entry 8 by NeedSun from Perth Road, Ontario Canada on Friday, July 7, 2006
This book captured my imagination from the first page and never let up. I am going to have to get my hands on the second one in this series, Past Redemption, as soon as I can.

Thank you very much for sharing this book with us, woosang. I will put it in the mail to Cherie this weekend.

Edit July 11: Sent by air today to CheriePie with two other books

Journal Entry 9 by CheriePie from Campbell, California USA on Tuesday, July 25, 2006
This was waiting here for me when I got home from vacation, along with 2 others from NeedSun. I've got a couple ahead of it I need to read, but will be able to start on it shortly.

Journal Entry 10 by CheriePie from Campbell, California USA on Wednesday, August 16, 2006
Wow! This was an awesome book, and a debut from this author no less. No wonder NeedSun had to immediately buy/locate book two. If she hadn't, I might've had to. ;)

This book is classified as a romance, and though I can see the romance aspect, it definitely wasn't the primary focus of the book which made me enjoy it even more. I like books where romance, if included at all, is more of an afterthought than part of the main story line.

Daphne is a strong, tough character, the kind I like, and a vampire to boot. Plus she's a Monkey in Chinese Astrology like me. :) In Beyond the Pale, Daphne, a nearly 500 year old vampire, is approached to join a team of vamps working for the US government to help catch terrorists. Vampires aren't widely recognized and accepted here like they are in the Anita Blake books, instead only certain government officials, and the Vamps themselves, really know of their existence. And with their superhuman strength, Team Darkwing makes a great set of heroes!

Though I just finished saying I don't care for the romance aspect, I'm curious to find out what happens between Daphne and Darius in the next book. Joanne, hurry up and read book 2 so I can be next! ;) LOL

This book will be on it's way to Rianonne shortly. I'll update this entry with the exact mailing date after I send it out.

UPDATE 21-AUG-2006: Mailed to Rianonne on 22-Aug-2006 via Air Mail.

Journal Entry 11 by Rianonne from Wien Bezirk 22 - Donaustadt, Wien Austria on Monday, August 28, 2006
Arrived safe and sound in Vienna today!

I still have a lot of Rings to read infront of this one but I promise to get to it as soon as possible!!

Journal Entry 12 by Rianonne from Wien Bezirk 22 - Donaustadt, Wien Austria on Tuesday, October 3, 2006
A very fun, light vampire read which reminded me a bit of Mary Janice Davidson's Undead-series (humor and fashion addiction). I liked that here vampires turn into bats as legend tells, and the suspense plot. With the cliffhanger at the end, I'm looking forward to the sequel :)

Journal Entry 13 by Morgaine77 from Münchenstein, Baselland Switzerland on Tuesday, October 10, 2006
Arrived safey in Switzerland, thanks! :-)
No more TV or other distractions for me until I catch up on all those bookrings! At least I'll try! LOL

Journal Entry 14 by Morgaine77 from Münchenstein, Baselland Switzerland on Friday, January 5, 2007
This was a quick and easy read, and very enjoyable at that! I loved the various characters - especially Benny with her southern charms (I swear, I could hear her drawl in my head!) and Cormac - gotta love a gay vampire. *giggles* I wonder what's the story behind Mar-Mar and I really hope we get to read more about her in the future. I also adored the idea of the bat-like vampire shape. Very nice! (and yes, I think bats are very cute!)

I'm very much looking forward to read more about the adventures of Team Darkwing!

Yay, the book is here! I'm looking forward to reading this!

Journal Entry 17 by CandyDarling from Helsinki, Uusimaa / Nyland Finland on Tuesday, July 17, 2007
When I started reading Beyond the Pale, I was instantly put off by the patriotism ("This country - this nation - is at war. Our way o life, our very existence, is threatened by small groups of terrorists" on page 11, for example). I don't like terrorists, but I don't think Bush and his government are any better. So while trying not to vomit, I came and read the reviews on this page, and as everybody else had loved this book, I decided to continue. That was a good choice.

After getting through the beginning, Beyond the Pale got really good. The best part was that this book was no ordinary romance, it was a thriller with a romantic twist. The relationship between Darius and Daphne was hot, and I loved the sex scene in the hotel, which was refreshingly different from the run-of-the-mill sex scenes normally present in romance novels. I'm looking forward to reading the sequel, which arrived recently in the mail.

I also loved the quotes from poems at the beginning of many chapters:
Let thy love in love in kisses rain / On my lips and eyelids pale
Down by the salley gardens my love and I did meet
Cruelty has a human heart / And jealousy a human face

The best laid schemes o' Mice an' Men,
Gang aft agley,
An' lea'e us nought but grief an' pain,
For promis'd joy!

The blood-dimmed tide is loosed, and everywhere
The ceremony of innocence is drowned;
The best lack all conviction, while the worst
Are full of passionate intensity.

I'm sorry I had the book for so long. Amberkatze wanted to be skipped, so I'll mail the book back to woosang.

P.S. The picture is of the Flatiron Building in New York, the fictional headquarters for Team Darkwing.

Book arrived a couple of days ago, but I've been so sick I've barely gotten out of bed. Thank you for sending it so far. I'm turning into a vampire book junkie. :D
I'll be sure and pass this on as soon as I finish it.

Journal Entry 24 by macewoman from Winston Salem, North Carolina USA on Tuesday, March 25, 2008
Interesting take on the vampire romance. Starts off slow, but by the middle it captured my interest.
Daphne has no interest in military affairs or the government, but when the choice is participate or die. Well, the choice seemed rather obvious. Darkwing is military group of vampires with the job of hunting terrorists. The leader is a human that goes by J and is none to fond of vampires. Daphne isn't sure who she can trust, and it is getting harder to tell the good guys from the bad guys. I liked that the story didn't end with a cliffhanger, but with some lead-in to the next installment.

Sending to laevina as a RABCK. Hope you enjoy it!
