kept me riveted to the page. the author tells the story of chris McCandless, a young man who went into the Alaskan wilderness in 1992 and died there. he'd given $25,000 to oxfam, abandoned his car, and burned all the cash in his wallet. 4 months after his setting out, his decomposed body was found, along with his journal. the book explores his motives, his background, and why he died. he was a fascinating person, and this is an interesting read.

This was waiting for me when I got home from my holiday. Thank you ebonystar for sending it to me. Once read I will pm the next reader.
I have mixed feelings about this book. On the one hand it was a riveting, gripping account, but on the other hand I thought it was somehow voyeuristic to piece together the last few tragic weeks of this man's life who through the book comes across as a very private person. I am not sure whether he would have felt comfortable knowing that his innermost secrets and thoughts would be made public. Just my opinion!
Thanks ebonystar for passing it on. Have pmed martinburo for their address.

Sorry for the delay, I got this a week ago. I am halfway through it.
A very interesting read. Made me think about exploring borders and extremes, what one gains and what one loses with the years, whether the Greeks were really right in thinking it's better to die young? (And, thinking of The lord of the rings, what is young?)
Sent this back to ebonystar.
