The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao

I never actively pursue prize-winning books (and have a bad history with Booker Prize winners), but I've consistently enjoyed every Pulitzer winner I've read, and this was no exception. It's not an easy book. It's riddled with lengthy footnotes, obscure nerd references, and untranslated Spanish, but that's exactly what I'd expect from Oscar and his friend, Yunior, the story's narrator. It's part memoir, part coming of age story, and part family saga, in a story that spans two countries and several generations. It's a glimpse of the immigrant experience, life under a brutal dictatorship, and the dreams and superstitions that follow people starting over in a new country.
