Purchased for a quid from WHSmith which sounds really cheap until you realise they were selling the same titles for 49p in the post Christmas sales.

I read this book after having seen the movie which was made of it and my opinion of the movie wasn't great even though I adore John Cuzac who played the lead character. I admit to enjoying the book much much more as the humour was a whole lot funnier with the original British slant and I decided what was missing from the movie was this Britishness.

The story follows 30 something record store owner, former DJ and former 'cool' hipster 20something male in his quest to unwittingly destory every adult relationship he engages in. Will he find love and happiness? He might, you read it for yourself and see.

Captured in a meet-up with the London Renegades.

Thanks, Inko!

Will journal when read.

I adored High Fidelity. I'm thinking of searching out other Nick Hornby titles as I loved his writing stle in this: his prose is straightforward and easy-to-read, and he treats serious *who-am-I-and-what-am-I-about-?* philosophical (dare one say existential?) matters with a light, deft hand.

There now, I've gone and sounded all book-critic-y.

Sorry.

Read this book.

I won a box of books from chubsiewhubsie - Thank you! This is the second I've received of this book, so I guess it's a sign I better hurry up and read it. I really enjoyed About a Boy by Nick Hornby so I bet this one is good.

I love that this book came all they way from the UK!! I was thrilled to see it in the Cliff's Top 100 Authors book box and readily crossed it off of my Wish List...Thanks to all those that got it to my door. :)

This book was almost exactly identical to the movie (except that the book is set in England and the movie was Americanized.) I like the author's writing style--it's straight forward and easy to understand. His character development was quite nice.

My only complaint was that every so often a funny line would come out of nowhere and I'm pretty sure I almost blew out a sinus cavity trying not to laugh and wake my husband up. hehe. Good stuff!

I'm reserving this book for a "books that were made into movies" book box that I signed up for.

I'm putting this book into the "They Made That Into a Movie Bookbox" hosted by wiccania...I hope that someone will find it enjoyable!

I'm taking this out of the bookbox although I debated about it for a while!

I can't really say I enjoyed the book. It was kind of like a mens romance novel. It was somewhat interesting reading a love story from a male perspective, but not enough so that I actually couldn't wait to find time to read a few pages.

I'm sending a few books to jumpingin and I saw this on her wishlist so I'm throwing it in as well. I hope your wishlist is up-to-date! It was actually the oldest book on your wishlist so I thought it was pretty cool that you'd get to take that one off!

Thanks so much, Rhonder. Your RABCK was already generous, and then you included this one, too. Good thing my husband and kids haven't done their Christmas shopping yet, as this was on my list! This book is one of the two Nick Hornby's I haven't read yet.

Journal Entry 17 by jumpingin from Vancouver, British Columbia Canada on Sunday, December 20, 2009
I love Nick Hornby's writing and his sense of humour. It was strange to read a novel like this from a man's perspective. Who knew they could be so needy?

Thanks again, Rhonder, for sending this to me. I'll be sending this to Leester, in exchange for a book she sent me last month.

Just started reading this. Thanks jumpingin!

Journal Entry 20 by Leester from Toronto, Ontario Canada on Sunday, January 24, 2010
Really took my time reading this one, enjoying his wit and humour. I think my favourite example of how subtle and humourous his writing is ... is when he spots Laura's car and jumps over a wall into a flower bed. "When I can't take it anymore, when my white shirt is translucent and my jacket streaked with mud, and I'm getting stabbing pains - cramp, or rheumatism, or arthritis, who knows? - in my legs, I stand up and brush myself off; and then Laura, who has obviously been sitting in her car by the bus stop all this time, winds down her window and tells me to get in." It's just this sort of scenario that gives you a great picture of the well-meaning bumbling idiot that Rob is.

I'm sure this would be an even more interesting read for a man, but it gives a little insight to their insecurities (I guess?) and is interesting to see the other side of the story, in this case.

With 9 journallers, I want to pass this on to someone who will enjoy it, journal it, and keep it moving. Hmmmm.....

My boyfriend will read it in the meantime (he will no doubt read it in about a day and a half).
