Sarah Canary
6 journalers for this copy...
Found a used copy in great condition at Sweet Briar Books, one of my favorite local shops.
From the jacket:
"When an enigmatic woman cloaked in black wanders into a Chinese labor camp in the Pacific Northwest of 1873, one man is chosen to lead her out into the woods. But soon, he becomes the enchanted follower. Thus begins a magical journey..."

Had to wait my turn to read Sarah Canary after my husband (a Sarah Joy Fowler fan) opened it up and then couldn't put it down.
I definitely enjoyed this book, especially the author's truly innovative and imaginative approach to storytelling. Her clever mix of humor, tragic elements of history, poignant beauty and the bizarre really kept me engaged. Unusual, in a good way.

Arrived today! Timing is good since I only have 50 pages left on my current book. I'll journal it again when I am finished.
Not my cup of tea as they say. Passing along to rannie by Saturday, 29 April 2006.
Thanks for sharing FeralReader.
Thanks for sharing FeralReader.
Received today from Knitwit - perfect timing since I finished my book last night. Thanks Knitwit!
I enjoyed this book very much. A bit of history, a touch of mystery, plenty of adventure and the barest wisp of the supernatural combine to make an entertaining tale.

This was an interesting story. The characters were great and I really loved the connections between real facts. In one of the reviews, Sarah Canary is compared to The Wizard of Oz, but I found that it was more similar to one of my favorite movies: a 1985 movie called Return to Oz. It has that eiry supernatural feel to it. I saw the similarity especially when the characters are running from the mental hospital. Dorothy also runs away from a mental hospital in Return to Oz. Anyone who reads this should check out Return to Oz. Actually, I suggest anyone check out Return to Oz. heh.

When I found myself looking for reasons to not read, I knew there was a problem. I'm going to have to agree with knitwit that "this isn't my cup of tea" either.
Thanks FeralReader for including me and giving me a chance to read something completely different.
I've PMed buffy25 and will mail as soon as I receive the address.
