Set in Ireland with two parallel stories, with the current day storyline focussing on uncovering the truth behind an occurrance which took place during the Famine. I found the investigation / mystery element quite compelling but the story is fairly unremarkable over all. A good one for a rest from heavy fiction.

Tree-hugger picked this up at the January York Meet Up for me because she thought I'd appreciate it. So, thank you Firefly-UK and Tree-hugger, I'll give it a go and let you know what I think.

I don't know what to write about this book - which is very unusual for someone with definite opinions on everything! It set up echoes and awoke memories for me despite my actual life experiences being so very different from those depicted.

I found it quite beautiful, telling a harrowing and uplifting tale in the sort of descriptive and poetic language I appreciate.

I didn't do a Release Alert on this book before I went into Harrogate because I wasn't sure what I was going to do with it, maybe leave it in a cafe. Anyway, at 12.30 pm I put it in the phone box outside Asda on Bower Road - and when I passed that way again around 3.30 pm it had already gone! So I guess there's no point in doing release notes now!
