Oops! I neglected to journal when I finished this book!

It's difficult to read a book in which you neither like nor have empathy for any of the characters. THE MIDDLE AGE was not a romance. It was far from it. It's a middle/upper class tale that, well -- is it satire? It's a dense slog to read. It shares common territory with Updike and Cheever: modern angst amongst the WASPs mired inextricable mid-life lethargy. Not pleasant.

I should probably stick with Oates' non-fiction, but I still have FOXFIRE around here to be read.

This is being shared at an upcoming book exchange. It's hoped that this and other books being brought to pass along will attract and convince those folks who are not yet aware of BookCrossing to join the world's greatest book club!
