The life story of a black man who began working at a young age to help support his family, never had an opportunity to go to school,and finally learned to read (a lifelong ambition) when he was 98 years old. It's been a while since I read this book, which has been sitting around for several years waiting for Mr. Kahuna to read it. He finally finished it and loved it.
