Wonderful book about the growing up of two rather different sisters in 1950s South Africa.I learned a lot about the history of South Africa, how apartheid came into place and what it must have been like for a young girl growing up in this enviroment. The characters are wonderfully sketched human beings, some a bit eccentric but all certainly very loveable. Thoroughly enjoyable book.

I have enjoyed the Barbara Trapido books I've already read and look forward to this one. Thanks kinedi.

Very interesting book about growing up in a changing South Africa, as apartheid becamew entrenched. Interesting to see liberal white people's reactions or rather lack of reactions to what was going on around them.
Unfortunately the book was spoilt for me by the inconsistent faux childish narrative voice.
