Ack! Why will publishers release books with no clue to the reader what the book might be about? Not even a genre. Grr. Luckily, with the magic of the internet, I'll post this entry and then go look it up. And thanks to the magic of Bookcrossing, I get to try it out AND have a jump on finding it another reader who will enjoy it. Thanks, MollyGrue!
Well, a little online skimming didn't provide a professional review of the book, but I did picke up some info. It was written in French in the 1950's, and concerns a man's struggle to save elephants from extinction in post-World War II Africa. Sounds like the kind of book you have to be in the right mood for, but the poeple who reviewed it on Amazon had a lot of good things to say about it.
Probably not my cuppa, but I'll try it out and pass it on.

I did not get the opportunity to read this, but I am trying to thin down Mt. TBR and I'm including it in an Mbag to Amberkatze for Austrian OBCZs. So perhaps down the road an Austrian will be reading an American translation of a book originally written in French...

I found the book in Flanagan's (an Irish Pub in Vienna) and the title caught my eye. There's no plot description so I don't know what I'm about to read :)
ETA 3 years later...
Gosh, I feel bad, I've had this book for about forever... But I finally got around to reading it and I'm going to release it today.
I'm really sorry about the hold up.
I quite liked the book, especially the language. It got a little long sometimes, though...

I've had this book for ages, which I'm really sorry for. Plus, my little nephew got it into his fingers and the cover's torn now. But all the pages are still perfect and it's a quite good read.
