Arrived in the morning post. Mom said, "Do you mind if I read it first?"

Ha! I don't mind.

Mom enjoyed reading this (as she does with many of the Anne Perry "Pitt" series) and has now passed it along for my take.

This I enjoyed quite a bit more than other Anne Perry novels I've read in recent times. The fact that homosexual behavior in England during the story's time period had recently been made an illegal activity lent an interesting historical bent. I wonder if it had been set in modern times, would the circumstances seem as scandalous? Would people be more offended at the victim's age or the sexual predilictions of the killer? What would the assumptions be today?

I was reminded of Andrew Cunanan and his killing spree. Remember that? Shades of this, somewhat.

This book was setting on a bench outside of Gourmet Pizza. I was waiting for my husband and headed toward the bencha and found it. I had never heard of this before. My sister was visiting and I showed it to her. Turns out Anne Perry is one of her favorite authors. I've just started reading it. When I finish, I will pass it on. Ilene Waite
