Time and Chance
Richard Cochrane is a successful Broadway actor. This is the life he chose. But somehow it has gone sour, and he longs for what he might have had.
Somewhere there is a Rick Cochrane who did not leave his hometown to pursue stardom. He married his childhood sweetheart, settled down to raise a family. But he is on the verge of madness, consumed by a deeply hidden rage.
Both are suffering from the wounds of decisions that cannot be unmade.
Or can they????

Thank you, Danes, I received this today. I'm so intrigued by this book - the reviews inside are from the authors of some of my favorite books, namely Replay and Time Out of Mind. Plus it's compared to Time and Again, It's a Wonderful Life, and The Twilight Zone. What more can one ask for in a book : - )
I really enjoyed this book! It started off great and had the perfect ending. I was a little afraid it would be a silly, syrupy romance, but thankfully, it wasn't. It's been a long time since I read a fun book and felt it had a real life lesson.
In this story, we follow the parallel lives of Richard/Rick, in alternating chapters. Richard is a Broadway actor in NYC; Rick is an insurance guy from New Hampshire who regrets that 'life' got in the way of his dreams of an acting career. Sometimes the lives overlap briefly, which was written is a clever, believable way. This reminded me of the movie "Sliding Doors" starring Gwyneth Paltrow, when one event (in her case, missing a train vs. catching the train) determines how the rest of her life ends up. I enjoy stories about parallel lives - and there aren't too many of them out there.
I loved this line: "Because I'd finally reached a certain peace and found a certain truth: that you can make some difference, to some people; but you can't make all the difference, to everyone." (pg. 308)
I am now on a mission to find 2 of Alan Brennert's other books - Kindred Spirits and Moloka'i.
Thanks again for offering this, Danes...I never would have heard of it otherwise!
