What a wonderful book! When the story unfolds itself, you can't shake the feeling a jigsaw puzzle is presenting itself. But how on earth do the pieces fit together? Remarkable story, knitting together threads from history and from the present.

Here's the blurb from the back: "Stanley Yelnats's family has a history of bad luck, so he isn't too surprised when a miscarriage of justice sends him to a boys' juvenile detention center, Camp Green Lake. There is no lake - it has been dry for over a hundred years - and it's hardly a camp: as punishment, the boys must each dig a hole a day, five feet deep, five feet across, in the hard earth of the dried-up lake bed. The warden claims that this pointless labor builds character, but that's a lie. Stanley must try to dig up the truth"

This book is on its way to ShadowPi in England. Sorry, because of new job and move next month it took me a bit longer than planned to get Holes to the post office. I hope you will enjoy reading it!

Just finished this. In the end it only took me a day to read, not only because it's quite short but also because once I'd started it I couldn't put it down.

I loved the way everything was entwined and the suprises just kept coming.

Further proof that pig stealing should be avoided at all costs as you just can't appreciate the consequences.

I am currently looking out for a new owner and will pass it on as soon as I find one.

I also read this in a day.

An enjoyable light read, loved the way the stories were all linked together, probably wouldn't have said that this book had won a literary prize or why it was on the BBC's Top 100 Big Read book list though. I'm sure there are some much better children's literature out there.

Thanks for sharing and I'll pass on in due course to another avid reader!
