One of the Inspector Lynley mysteries. This is a good "modern English mystery" series, not too violent, a little dark, featuring some interesting character psychology.

Took me longer than I'd hoped to get to this one.
creativeMGE's book description is apt. The plot moved slowly, the characters interesting but a bit stereotypical. The story was clever enough, however.
