If it weren't for my inability to ever part with a book that I have started but not finished I would have never finished reading this. I started it a year ago and gave up somewhere in the middle of a chapter devoted entirely to describing (the architecture mostly) of 15th century Paris, but I'm glad that I finally came back to it. Once you get used to Victor Hugo's tendency to wonder away from the plot it is a much more enjoyable read and a wonderful story. So if you struggle like me then persevere!
Having said that you're probably thinking I'm a philistine for not fully enjoying this book and definitely for skipping most of the chapter that wasn't part of the story, so it's probably about time this book started looking for a new home!
