I haven't read this but know someone who enjoyed it.
From the jacket: 'Young Willie Beech is evacuated to the country as Britain stands on the brink of the Second World War. A sad, deprived child, he slowly begins to flourish under the care of old Tom Oakley- but his new found happiness is shattered by a summons from his mother back in London...'
Different cover.

Released on Thursday, October 10, 2002 at Guest Bookshelf at The Miner's Wife B&B in Greenwood, British Columbia Canada.
I found this book at the Miner's Wife B&B. Will add more later Later---. Left this book with my daughter and granddaughter, When they have read it and I have read it again 'slowly ' enjoying each page - I will release it. We went to school with a ten year old boy from London during the war. I cried when I read this book (Have not done that since " The Yearling") The book feels soft in your hands when held, perhaps because it is so full of warm gentle love. Find a special quiet spot and enjoy!
