I got this for a NSSSSS presi (shhhhh!) and couldn't resist a look. Next thing I knew, i'd finished it!
Brilliant book. Alice in Wonderlandish with a scary twist.
Reminded me of all the nightmares I had when I was a kid - I used to be afraid to put my feet to the bottom of the bed because something like the 'other mother' would drag me down into another place that I imagined as remarkably like the one Neil Gaiman conjures up in this book.
Thanks for this, Olliebear, t'was a real treat. Brrr.

For Olliebear - Happy summer solstice suprise!
Thanks! I have been wanting to read this for ages so it is a real treat! I can't wait to dive in. It may come with me for nighttime reading at the Uncon!
A lovely sscary story from Neil Gaiman. Initially, I felt a little scared to read this late at night as it looked to be a really creepy story. Although it was scary wasn't graphic in terms of horror or anything being a children's book, I felt that it would give me nightmares for some reason. The imagery is very creepy and I think if I had read this as a child I would have been really spooked which is fab.
This is the curse of having a very vivid imagination.
The use of buttons for eyes on the "other" parents was really creepy, as was the hand with the long fingernails, especially when the other mother tapped her fingernails on her button eye! Yikes!
All in all I really enjoyed this book and was not disappointed by Gaiman. He truly is an extremely talented author.
Thanks for the chance to read such a fabulous book.
