After suffering a massive stroke, Jean-Dominique Bauby, editor-in-chief of French Elle and the father of two young children, found himself completely paralysed, speechless and able only to move one eyelid. With his eyelid he 'dictated' this remarkable book.
This book came free with The Times several weeks ago.
It's a short read with big impact. Beautifully written, it is both humorous and heart-wrenching. Bauby describes living with 'locked-in' syndrome, following a massive stroke. His writing has a poetic, almost dreamlike quality to it. I loved this book, and sobbed my way through the majority of it.
