Well.....the book was well written. It was an interesting story that I had heard about only from the news coverage. It was nice to get Mia's side of the story. I also have great admiration for her for her love of children and willingness to give so many wonderful babies a home and hope for their future. She is actually a bit of an inspiration to me as we also plan to adopt many children.

On the down side of this book.....Mia details her life with Woody Allen and the scandal that rocked her world when he had sex with her 17 year old daughter while they were still involved in their 12 year relationship. Only once in this book did she question her responsibility for the situation. The book seemed to place quite a bit of emphasis on deamonizing Woody (not that he doesn't deserve it). However, she also details many situations that took place that showed that Woody was acting inappropriately towards some of her other children in the years prior to the scandal. I find it hard as a monther myself to understand why she stayed with this man for so many years when he was sexually inapporpriate, physically abusive, and emotionally distant both from her and her children. This certainly says to me that she had co-dependant issues. What's done is done and I appreciate her candor, but I wish she would have taken more responsibility for her part in this situation. She chose to stay with a man who her children didn't like and were scared of. She saw him twist her son's leg in an attempt to break it and stayed with him. She saw and in fact went to counselling (as a family) for inappropriate sexual behaviour toward her 2 year old daughter and she still chose to stay with him even though the therapy clearly wasn't changing his behaviour. All of these things fall onto her. Woody is a sick man who should never be allowed near children. He is now married to Soon-yi (Farrow's daughter that he had sex with) and they have adopted two children together. That scares me to no end.

So while I find many parts of this book inspiring - I would also like to slap her silly. I won't even say what I would like to do to Woody.
