Found in my bookpile, not sure where it came from!

Glad to have found it, though. Anyone who accuses me and my like-minded fellows of only listening to one side of the story need only to read this book. It is filled with letters from soldiers in Iraq, just home from Iraq, stationed elsewhere, their families, and other war veterans. *All* of them backing up the claims of atrocities perpetrated by this administration. My heart goes out to each and every one of them over there and their loved ones. I can only hope that we as a nation wake up and find our way back onto the right path.

I thought it would be appropriate to read this over Memorial Day weekend, in order to meditate upon the experiences of so many young soldiers fighting in Iraq. I mourn for the families who have lost their loved ones in this unnecessary war, and I stand firmly behind the troops, working to bring them home! If Clinton got impeached for the whole Monica debacle, how is it that Bush has not been impeached for telling such immense lies to the American people?!?

Moore includes a wonderful resource list in the back of the book, on how we can provide monetary and material support to the soldiers (phone cards, USO certificates for groceries, etc). The website that seems best suited to this community is:

www.booksforsoldiers.com

where you can go and fill specific requests for soldiers in Iraq, Afghanistan, Korea, etc.

I'd like to see an update of this book! All the letters in it were from late 2003 and 2004, and I imagine there's a lot more disillusionment now that the death toll stands at 2600 U.S. soldiers...

Moore printed the letters exactly as received, with awkward grammatical structures and words of criticism for himself or praise for Bush intact. Good for him!

The letters that I liked the most were on page 26 ("I Hate My Commander In Chief", from an African-American woman who minces no words); page 28 ("Greed and Abuse", which explains the KBR business in two short paragraphs); page 171 ("It's Not Enough To Say You Support the Troops" -- by Emily Riggs, a very articulate writer).

The epilogue letter was from Lance Cpl. Abdul Henderson, who was featured in the movie Fahrenheit 9/11. He stated simply and unemotionally, "The war in Iraq is unwarranted and the costs are too high for the American people." Plain, bottom-line words like this probably affect men and women in power more deeply than the complaints about nervous breakdowns and ruined lives that accompanied some of the letters.
