Another one from the bumper crop of books I picked up the other day - it's a fabulous premise (and a beautiful cover), but I know I'm not going to get around to reading it for the forseeable future so I'm going to take it along to the Hull Meet tomorrow night...the Amazon reviews are excellent, but maybe a review or two from the gang here will spur me on to give it a go!

A delightful story about a giraffe and its journey from Ethiopia to France in the 1820s. The tale of the trek is interesting. What kills this book is the first 60 pages, filled full of back history (the political systems of France and Egypt and their relations) which it didn't need at all. The author would have do so much better to concentrate on the giraffe, and it does make you wonder whether the first 60 pages is just filler.
