It's been so long since I read it. I know that I couldn't put it down though. I like this author, but some of her stuff is a little down. But, life can be down at times. I hope you find this book.

I caught the book in a restaurant in the college district of Denton and picked it up because I had a vague recollection of the program...maybe I heard about it on NPR?

I was also eager to read another novel by Joyce Carol Oates after having read "We Were the Mulvaneys", so here I go...

A very compelling read - I found myself unable to relate to the protagonist, but that didn't detract from JCO's ability to spin a good yarn. Like her or not, the people she conjures up stick with you a while.
Whenever I read a novel I always wonder what part is autobiographical - not necessarily the events that take place, but more the personalities that are presented...
I plan on having my husband release this book in an airport - he's passing through Cleveland on the 28th, so that's where I'll ask him to leave it. This is contingent, of course, on his remembering to do it!
