This is a whimsical look at language through the eyes of young Ella Minnow Pea, resident of the fictional island of Nollop, just off the coast of South Carolina. Nollop was named after Nevin Nollop, the author of the immortal phrase, "The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog". When letters begin to fall one by one from the statue to Nevin Nollop, the island's Council bans their use in written or spoken language. The novel unfolds in letters to and from Ella and she struggles for linguistic freedom. If you love language, you will love this book.
