The Giving Tree is about a boy and a tree growing up together and the boy gets so old he doesn't play games with the tree, but when he keeps coming back to visit the tree and she expects him to play on her branches and eat her apples, but he just tells her he's too old, busy, and needs to do stuff and she gives him those supplies to make money, build a house, build a boat, etc. Then when the boy came back yet again the tree was a stump and he was an old man and the tree got sad and told the boy she had nothing left to give, but then the boy said he just wanted to sit with her so he sat on all that was left of her, a stump.
