It's a new month... time for some new bug fixes!
While Matt is still working on harnessing the book data that we all have contributed to, and making it available for searches, he's also been rather busy fixing other things, and even adding some nifty little features. Read all about it in this Announcements forum post.Moab is My Washpot

This was waiting for me when I got back after a few days away. One other ring book in front of it, so hope to have it turned around by next week.
This was an extremely enjoyable and amusing book. In it Stephen Fry presents his autobiography up to age 20. It is, as far as the reader can tell, an extremely honest account and Fry doesn't attempt to gloss over some of the more negative aspects of his first two decades or the (possibly controversial) aspects of his homosexuality. Fry is at once wildly eccentric and at the same time extremely sane and I hope that we will eventually see another volume of his memoirs to follow up this one (which also entertained me by featuring my BC name on page 224).
Also, I was curious as to the title which is not mentioned or alluded to anywhere in the book itself. A little googling revealed that it a quoute from the Bible, Psalm 60 Verse 8 to be specific.
"Moab is my washpot; over Edom will I cast out my shoe: Philistia, triumph thou because of me."
Now you know! I will send this on to CaterinaAnna tomorrow.

Squidged through my door by the postman just in time for me to acknowledge receipt before I leave for work.
I'm looking forward to finishing my current book & getting into this one this evening. The note that came with the book made me smile - thank you USM, I'm pleased to see that your writing style has been improved by your reading of 'said tome' ;o)

Erm ... I started this this with lunch ...
Instead of a synopsis or opinion - both ably provided already - some highlights.
Favourite bookish quote:
'Intellectuals to the left of us, intellectuals to the right, reading. Beastly, unhealthy swine.'
Favourite Fry-ish word:
'ensnogglement'.
Bit I related to most:
'Now, I have never believed myself to be physically attractive. There are three reasons for this.
1. I'm not my type.
2. I'm not physically attractive.
3. So there.'
(I leave those of you who have met me to decide if it is the poor self-image or/and sheer bloody-mindedness that made me wince with recognition there.)
Best serious (well, as serious as the man gets) bit:
too long to quote in full, but is a thought-provoking list of things one should not be ashamed of or apologise for and an equally incisive one of things Fry feels he should apologise for. Might even copy it out before I send this on to Vespa on Monday.
btw USM there is a reference to washpots - it is in the Afterword, but it does not clarify the psalmish link.

Arrived safely this morning. It might be a week or so before I get to this one as there are several rings waiting to be read, but I promise to read it as soon as possible
Stephen Fry talks with humour and admirable honesty about the events in his early years. Thank you for giving me the chance to read it. Now on its way to the next player
Received today, thanks. I will read it as soon as I finish the other ring books that arrived just ahead of it.
I really enjoyed this book. It is very funny and I like the way that he writes even the sad parts with humour. I hope he writes about his later life soon.
The last entry wasn't really an anonymous finder it was me forgetting to log in first. This is about the 10th time I've done it.

Got this from dolph1n today - thanks! The timing couldn't be better, with Fry's "The Secret Life of a Manic Depressive" just having been on BBC2. I've just started another book ring book, but I'll get to this one next.

Very entertaining, although I didn't always like the way Fry jumps about from one topic to another.
On its way to jillbe when she gets back from holiday.
