Operation Certain Death
2 journalers for this copy...
This is real. This is a book on those ethnic wars fought over in many countries, but especially in african ones. Sierra Leone - a few years ago, under the chaotic and tremendously bloodthirsty actions of warlords fighting everything and everybody, killing, maiming and raping the local population by the thousands. It then becomes international news, when british soldiers get captured by that drug-crazed rebel group called "The West Side Boys". Then only the british special forces mount a tremendous operation to rescue their captured men. And only in those cases - when white people, mostly Europeans - are threatend ore worse, we hear about those atrocities... But those ethnic conflicts are presently permanent in more than one african country.

What a humongous book! It arrived today, and I managed to read a few pages just going from the mailbox to my apartment! This has moved straight to the top of my reading list. Thanks, book-man-8!
What a fantastic book. The action was non-stop, and the writing was top-notch.
With all that is going on in Sudan right now, hearing about what the Janjaweed is doing to villagers, this is especially timely, even though it happened in 1999. For some reason that only our Higher Power knows, murderous monsters like the Janjaweed and the West Side Boys continue to exist. Luckily, they also continue to be defeated.
Reading about the exploits of the SAS is always time well-spent.
