Eleven year old Alice Duncan finds herself in a highly vulnerable predicament. Abandoned by her carefree jet-set mother and emotionally tortured artist father, Alice finds herself under the haphazard supervision of her sixteen year old aunt esme. Yet when Alice goes to north carolina to attend the balthus institute, an unorthodox art school for gifted children, circumstances manage to go from bad to worse. Posessing "a kid's head grafted onto a woman's body", Alice faces the disturbing realities of reckless excess, Inspired by the visionary imagery of Lewis Carroll, this tale vivdly portrays the more sinister reaches of america's not-to-distant past.
finished reading this today on my break at work. what a book! the details were so acute, and the lewis carroll-esque imagery so psychedelic and surreal. the last hundred pages got kind of pervy and uncomfortable to read, but in the end alice triumphs (at least from what I can piece together), and realises her potential.

It's time to let go of some books of Mount TBR without reading them, because I've been keeping them for way too long. Mount TBR has been growing and growing instead of been shrinking, so this book is now available and will be released soon.

Picked up at the Amsterdam Convention, because it sounded interesting. Thank you! This will make its way to one of the three Official Bookcrossing Zones in Ipswich when I've finished with it.

Another novel playing with some elements of the Alice myth. Now going to Estherase, as she is very keen on such things!

To be posted to Estherase
