My Point...And I Do Have One

From the Publisher (on Amazon)...
With the unpredictable wit and engaging warmth that has won her a loyal following, and the undeniable star quality that has made her television series an instant hit, Ellen DeGeneres brings her unique comic perspective to the page in a book of simple yet brilliant observations, outrageous dreams, and hilarious life stories.
This book was published in 1995 and a lot has happened to Ellen since it came out but it is still funny. A lot of it seemed familar from Ellen's stand up act. But, that is ok with me. I love her stand up act. :) Here are a couple of my favorite lines...
"All kidding aside–actually, I change my mind. I don't want to put all kidding aside. I want the kidding right there in front where we can all see it. The main point of this book is kidding. If I put all kidding aside, there would be nothing left but nonkidding, and believe me, that wouldn't make a very interesting book. So forget that: the kidding stays (or I go)." pg. 94
"The only thing that scares me more than space aliens is the idea that there aren't any space aliens. We can't be the best that creation has to offer. I pray we're not all there is. If so, we're in big trouble." pg. 111

Thanks Cheesy! I'm looking foward to reading this one. Looks good. *slips in toward the top my tbr pile* :-)
Finished this book (July 8) and I have to admit this was a lot better than I had expected. I would have thought that her writing would have been different from what she would noramlly talk like. However, I could imagine Ellen saying this stuff. I found myself laughing out loud at time with some of the things she wrote. I always thought that Ellen was such a funny woman, and was happy to see that she still remains humorus even through her writing. Thanks cheesy for sending this book my way... I will pass it on. I'm sad to let it go, but I want it to be read by others. :)
A bookray has been started for this book...

Part of turtle's bookrelay--can't put it down. great if you need a laugh. just got it yesterday, and over half way through. will be on its way to everett-reader soon.
Just received from americanmuse - bookray
I feel like a wet blanket on this one - I just didn't think it was funny. I have seen Ellen's show and her comedy routine and liked her just fine. This book just didn't capture the grins for me. Hope everyone else enjoys it though... sending it along on it's bookray journey to guinaveve!
I think I am going to like this. I like Ellen's stand up routine and her show was pretty funny until she came out and that became the focus of the show. It started to feel like a political platform instead of a sitcom. While it was a political platform I could agree with, I still didn't enjoy such a big change to the show.
I do think the book will be funny though, especially after reading the reviews here.

I am so glad I had the presence of mind to grab this book last night on the way to the ER with my son. (He is fine now, no worries). We sat in waiting rooms and the examining room for almost 8 hours, the overwhelmed employees were severely understaffed. Anyway, I had the book to read and though I can't give it a glowing review, I was grateful to have something to do.
I guess this book just wasn't what I anticipated it to be. I though it would be a funny autobiography. As I read it, I got the feeling she was just writing a book because she was a celebrity who could, but had nothing much to say. Some of it was funny, some of it just kind of weird filler stuff. Don't look to this for anything personal, it isn't really here. The bits and pieces I could pick out about her life sound as if a real autobiography might be fascinating. I don't know if she has one by now, but if so, I would read it.
I have PMed the next participant and intend to ship this off soon.

arrived in yesterday's mail and I'm almost finished.
ok, the book had some funny parts-and I could "hear" Ellen saying them-I guess it just wasn't what I expected. It was a quick entertaining read though. Guinaveve had it right-it's a good book to read if you're sitting around waiting.
Posting out to kimsbooks03 today.
Posting out to kimsbooks03 today.
Arrived safely today. I will start this soon.
I have to agree with previous reviewers who thought this book would be funnier. I too like Ellen's talkshow and standup routine, I found very few laugh out loud moments in this book. I hope it is enjoyed more by future readers.
Thank you TITurtle1 for allowing me to join this ray.
I have contacted the next person on the list and will get it out as soon as I hear back.

I thought the book was mildly amusing. It helped to picture Ellen delivering the stories instead of just reading them. I am a fan of hers, but her humor doesn't translate as well as I had hoped when written down. But, it was a quick and relatively enjoyable read. I'm sending it on to Wyldewomin.

Arrived a few days ago. Sorry, my internet has been down and I haven't been able to record its arrival! I have already started it but I will keep my thoughts to myself until I've finished it!
Thank you so much. :o)
Thank you so much. :o)
I've got to be honest, I was hoping for more from this book. I wanted to get to know Ellen and about her life and whilst there appeared to be bits of this, the book seemed more a comic or cartoon style, with incessant jokes. Having said that, the jokes were quite funny!
I will send this book on as soon as I get the nest persons address.
Thanks! :o)
