I'm a big fan of Katie Fforde - her lighthearted Aga-saga type books have always been a source of uncomplicated pleasure for me, so when I saw this one going cheap in a bookshop I had to buy it.
The storyline is along much the same lines as Fforde's previous novels: single thirty-plus woman involves herself in some sort of project (in this case the fight to save a local craft market) and becomes involved with a couple of men along the way. Will she choose the loyal boring one or the wild exciting one?
Unfortunately I'm really disappointed with it - in fact, I've only read about a third of it and have had to give up. I don't really know what my problem with it is - I don't think Fforde's style has changed dramatically since her earlier books, it just doesn't seem to have struck a note with me this time. Maybe I'm in a different place in life now so these books no longer affect me the same way; maybe BookCrossing has broadened my reading to the extent that I'm no longer satisfied with such unchallenging novels. I really don't know.
Anyway, rather than letting this one collect dust I'm going to take it along to the Reading meeting tomorrow in the hope that I can find it a more appreciative owner!
