I will NEVER complain about my upbringing again. This memoir is both hilarious and horrifying. At times I wasn't sure that I really wanted to know all that Augusten Burroughs wanted to share, yet I felt compelled to read on. It's what I call the "Rue Paul Effect" ... I felt cheap and sleazy reading it, but couldn't put it down (like watching the Rue Paul Show with remote poised in hand, yet oddly paralyzed).

I was so pleased to see this book in my mailbox today! Thanks, Beanz! Thanks also for thoughfully including the bookmark! Will make another journal entry once I have finished reading the book.

Read this book while on vacation in Dubai. I have never been exposed to a family more unconventional than that of the author's. The theory that a doctor is very often a victim of the very disease he cures, seems to hold true in this case where the psychiatrist, also the author's legal guardian, seems the craziest person in this dysfunctional family.
