The first novel in the Earth's children series, this book is set during the last Ice Age. The main character is Ayla, a human child adopted by a tribe of Neanderthal. It's an interesting read and would be fascinating if it were definitely historically true. I did enjoy it but I doubt I'll read it again, and it didn't inspire me to rush out and look for the rest of the series.
