This story is along the lines of Princess and Daughters of Arabia, in that it deals with the human rights issues faced by many of the world's women. In this book, Fauziya Kassindja and co-author Layli Miller Bashir tell us of Kassindja's experiences and her dealings with the United States Immigration and Naturalization Service.

After her father's death, Fauziya is left in the guardianship of her uncle who decides that she should marry and be circumcised. She is forced to marry a man thirty years her senior who already has three wives, and two days later she escapes circumcision by fleeing to the U.S. to seek asylum. But her ordeal has only just begun.
