The Man Who Planted Trees [UNABRIDGED]
4 journalers for this copy...
What a great little pocket sized story about perseverance, hope and humility. The narrator is travelling in the foothills of the French Alps and meets a shepherd who has quietly taken on the task of planting 100 acorns a day in an effort to reforest his desolate region. Over the next several decades, the man meets with success in planting and the area undergoes a major transformation...the world is renewed.

Thankyou, from-the-coast, for trading this book with me - the mini-edition is so cute! I love the woodcut engravings that illustrate this book, and will probably read it later today.
It amused me that the Afterword at the end was half the length of the story itself, but it was also interesting to get some background info.
It's a very simple story, and quite breathtaking in its simplicity in a way. One person really can make a big difference, and the message of the book is that you - anyone - could make a big difference, too. I found the writing itself a little stilted - probably the result of translation - but definitely deserves its classic status. The beautiful woodcut illustrations really epitomise the spirit of the story.
I will take this along to the 1st(!) Derby Bookcrossing Meetup with me, on Tuesday...

Great short read,The narregator tells the story of a shepherd whom plants trees, which eventually turns barren land into a living woodland. This story makes you realise that we can all change things for the better even in a small way, we may not see immrdiate results but like the shepherd and his trees he improved that area of the world for years to come.
just found, going to read v. soon
