Recently read my first Winton (Dirt Music) and couldn't understand why I hadn't read him before! This copy has an inscription in Chinese (I think) and English, wishing the recipient happiness in 1996.
Fantastic!
I gobbled this book up in a matter of hours - I am always reluctant to read Winton, but I have no idea why, as I have thoroughly enjoyed all I have read so far.
What a touching, ranting, fast-paced, heartbreaking and gorgeous novel this is!

I wasn't able to put the book down. The story sucked me right in but I was very disappointed with the ending. Doesn't seem to be anything worse than finishing a book and still being left with unanswered questions. Maybe it was too deep for me. Perhaps the next reader will 'get it' and let me know in their review.
