The Acid House

From the author of Trainspotting, a collection of short stories ranging in subject matter from ecstacy, to heroin, to sex, to transexuals. Smart and funny, although in points extremely graphic and profane. Still great, though. Welsh has a habit of writing phonetically, so fun is definitely had with the largely Scottish characters. Highly recommended, but maybe for "mature" people...?? :)
Am organising a swap for this book with spark. Will keep you posted :)
This actually got to me awhile ago and (gasp!), I forgot to make an entry. Sorry, Tanzen! And now I am ready to release it to a fellow bookcrosser in Las Vegas. It travels, this book! I found Acid House to be a rather verbally hypnotic journey through a messy world populated with emotionally messy people. A scathing, sometimes funny, often empathetic portrait of tattered souls navigating through hell. Not for the faint hearted!
This book was great. I loved the Scottish dialect, and the fact the stories wildly varied from gritty reality to magic squirrels. As an American with an interest in Scotland (Damn family reunions. Crazy Scottish relatives), I enjoyed this. I'll be letting my friend Maggi read it, she's a fellow Scotland fan.
Have not read it yet...but I plan on it. Thanks Steph, I'm hooked on this deal now. FRC!
