New Hampshire 1929 - when Sexton Beecher proposes to Honora Willard she lays aside his flaws as one might overlook a small stain in a beautifully embroidered tablecloth. But as the couple begin their new life in the house at Fortune's Rock, their love is about to be tested to the limit.
I did enjoy this book in spite of the fact that it really was rather depressing.

I liked the book and read it very quickly, as it happened with the forst Shevre book i read some time ago. There is something in her writing that keeps me reading even if it is late at night and I should go to sleep :-p
I'll offer it on bookrelay or trade it...

Received today :-) Wow I can't believe how fast the book got here from Italy! I look forward to reading & passing it along :-)
I really enjoyed this book! I loved Shreve's prose and the way she brought all the characters together. I also enjoyed the attention to detail in describing what life was like for those suffering from the Great Depression/Stock Market Crash.

Like other readers I appreciated the beautiful writing and imagery, but found the story rather depressing. Worth a read.
