I passed this on to a friend who was visiting from NYC.
Many thanks to lilysmom, who saw this book on my wishlist and gave it to me on my recent visit to Bellingham!
I had put Blood Meridian on my wish list after seeing it as a runner up for "best book of the last 25 years". I knew it would be a outside of my usual subtle, relationship-oriented choices. Didn't expect it to be quite so gory. But very compelling, virtuoso writing, obsessively bleak yet often funny. Ample raw, coagulated jerky to chew on the questions of what is evil, what is sadism, what molds humans into creatures without empathy or ethos. For such humans, what passes for eroticism, happiness, sense of self-worth. Earless and crudely tatooed Toadvine was my gruesome favorite, right from the moment when he croons to the 15-year-old kid, "Kick him...aw, kick him, honey." And he ranks near the top among this crew in terms of moral compass.
Just don't expect any female characters-- unless counted in that number are half-dead corpses being sodomized during a massacre.
I'll hold onto this one for Maikel to read, then pass it on here in NYC.

Well, Maikel must have read it and passed it on-- he can't remember! It may show up someday by a BK journaler.
