I can see why kids [and adults] like this book. It has lots of action and a deep backstory. But I just didn't enjoy it, mainly because I highly disliked Artemis, the 12 year old mastermind. He thiefs, he kidnaps, and his butler bristles with weapons. Yes, it's original to have your protagonist be a bad guy, but it was repellent to me, esp because of his age. Most of the characters are unlikable, and there's too much action for my tastes.
Other than that, I enjoyed it. Joking!
I'll still give the next in the series a go, but I was very disappointed in this one.
