Fascinating, odd, interesting little book. I was mostly captivated by the way the 15 year old girl from whose perspective the story is told has the ability to weave small fantasies, seamlessly out of ordinary occurrences for the children she babysits.
From the bookflap: "In this haunting new work of fiction by Alice McDermott- her first since the best-selling "Charming Billy," a woman recalls her fifteenth summer with the wry and bittersweet wisdom of hindsight." Haunting is a good word for the book.
