This is a collection of ghost stories that Davies wrote for the Christmas celebrations when he was the Master at Massey College, University of Toronto beginning in 1963. While I imagine someone who had attended the college would be more aware of the little "in" jokes he's apparently making some of the pieces are quite charming and hold up well even to someone who hadn't been there.

This book and another terrific book arrived as a trade from jamieh2003 in the state. The book I sent to her was very old and battered but I received two wonderful books of ghost stories in return. What a lovely bookcrosser - thank you!
I sat down this afternoon and read nearly all of the stories in this book. Robertson Davies is such a clever and witty author, very knowledgeable and educated but he manages never to sound pompous or patronizing. These stories are a cheeky cross-over from horror into humour. I am looking forward to finishing the rest of these ghost stories tonight.
I am planning to share this book with other Robertson Davies fans.
