Journal Entry 3 by wing6of8wing at Silver Spring, Maryland USA on Wednesday, May 22, 2024
This book was left over at the end of the Gaithersburg Book Festival and came home with me to draft a new life plan. It will be set aside for a woman in my quilt group who has a Little Free Library.

This book is one of the greatest modern Russian classics and, in my opinion, a must read. I think it is on the list of books to read before you die -- but if it isn't it should be. I could not put it down when I read it and it was powerful enough to contribute to Solzhenitsyn's eventual Nobel Prize for Literature. It is an expose of life in Stalin's gulags, approved for publication by Khrushchev, and part of the reason he was later forcibly expelled from the Soviet Union.
