A Common Reader edition. When ACR was still around, there were books that were designated TGR, for "Thumping Good Read". I think this was one of those, but I'm not certain & it makes me sad to look it up - I really miss the ACR catalogues.
Freeman signed on as radio officer for a voyage across the North Atlantic on kind of a tub of a ship, back in 1961. The "Allenwell" was contracted to Cunard to transport cargo to the USA...the cargo became an issue.
Anyway, TGR or not, I wanted to like this book more than I actually liked it. It was interesting, but I found myself reading along & not really paying much attention, so I gave up.
