When it started out with a person eaten by rats and bodies hanging in trees, I was expecting this to become a gore-fest, but instead it's a psychological police drama, with the enigmatic hard-as-nails Detective Mallory at its heart - beautiful but sociopathic. A horrible past at the Driscoll school is gradually uncovered. This is not my kind of book at all but I ended up finding it quite readable.
