It is a while since I read this. This is the second in her series and she tells her tale as a young mother in California, unemployed, embarking on brief affairs and transient jobs in shops and night clubs, turning to prostitution and the world of narcotics.

I was absorbed in the series when i first read them and have read them all more than once. Her writing is witty beautiful and commanding.

Another beautifully written instalment in her autobiography, it amazes me that she can write about such brutal events and times with such honesty, but in such a witty and elegant way.

I sent the first volume out to members of my postal book group, and will keep hold of this volume until they have all finished it before asking if any of them want to read this one.
