Really enjoyed this historical fiction novel about the last woman who was executed for witchcraft in Britain, while a lot of the novel is speculation, it certainly feels like it could have been real. This was a shitty time to be a woman, you just had to be slightly different and all one man had to do was point at you and say 'witch!'.
I loved the cast of characters, from Janet and Alia to the travelling troupe. It was enjoyable to follow them around the pages.
It also mentions in the historical note that although it was woman who were mainly prosecuted for witchcraft, in some countries, men were more likely to be a victims. I wonder why the difference? Also sad to read there are still places in the world today where you can be accused of this.
Certainly a period of history I would like to read more about.
