Permanent collection for sure! Donfiction and I drove 100 miles to Huntsville, Ontario for Roy's "Paper Trails" book launch in August. And, we took my 96-year old Uncle Bob to the event, as he has known Roy for over 60 years. Both men grew up in Huntsville, and according to Roy, Uncle Bob gave him his first job (pruning Christmas trees). Roy's life has certainly been interesting - from coming within a hair of being kicked out of school (F's on his report card) to being editor of that school's newspaper the following year, wild times with friends in the North, canoe trips, a long and distinguished career in journalism - encompassing sports, world events, politics and culture, family life with four kids and a wife, good pals...many adventures. And, they're not over yet! Having a personal connection to Huntsville, and having had the honour of Roy's participation in Harrowsmith's "Small Ponds" feature a while back, this book was a meaningful, and engaging read. If you've never heard of or been to Huntsville in cottage country, Ontario, the book is still a real page-turner. Roy is one of Canada's greatest storytellers, and says, "I could not be more proud to have belonged to a profession that believes that truth matters. It does matter - and never so much as right now. Great stories - great writer - great life! I have enjoyed a number of MacGregor's works - Life in the Bush, Canoe History etc.....but this is my favourite .....
